04 · The mark’s story
ARKAION Mem û Zîn TOTE BAGS takes its name from Ehmedê Xanî’s Mem û Zîn, written in Kurmancî in 1692. Mem, of the Alan, and Zîn, sister of the mir of Cizîra Botan, love each other and are kept apart. Beko, at court, stands between them. They die without a life together; the poem lets their graves grow toward one another. Xanî wrote it as a love story and as something larger: a Kurdish answer to the great romances, and a lament that a people divided cannot hold its own. Readers still take the separation of Mem and Zîn as that allegory — love blocked by power, and a call to stand as one. This tote is inspired by that story. It is a new ARKAION piece, not a historical textile and not a claim on Xanî’s poem. What you receive: Polyester body, polyester lining. Fashion tote, open closure, no zip.
